The creator of Grey’s Anatomy makes a major Netflix announcement.

“We’re excited to deepen our partnership.”

Shonda Rhimes, the creator of Grey’s Anatomy, has increased her Netflix partnership to include feature films, gaming, and virtual reality entertainment.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, this keeps Shondaland Media’s TV production, branding, and merchandise deal with the streaming service in place while also bringing live events and experiences to the platform.

“We were both taking a leap into the unknown when Ted [Sarandos, Netflix CEO] and I chose to break the traditional network TV business model by moving Shondaland to Netflix,” Rhimes said in a statement this week.

“Today, Shondaland at Netflix is thriving creatively, profitable as an asset, and engaging audiences all over the world with stories that fearlessly challenge viewers while still keeping them tremendously delighted.”

“Shonda develops shows that get the globe talking, and we’ve seen the strength of her creative vision to translate in any language,” Netflix’s head of global TV, Bela Bajaria, said following the announcement.

“Shonda is a wonderful businesswoman and a fantastic partner, and we’re excited to continue working with her for many years.”

Rhimes’ most recent Netflix project was as an executive producer on Bridgerton, a wonderful period drama series.
