Jenny, would you be the one to reveal Sharon’s deception?
There are spoilers ahead for Coronation Street.
Jenny Connor of Coronation Street has had Sharon Bentley on her radar for a few weeks due to Sharon’s questionable conduct, and actress Sally Ann Matthews has implied that Jenny may be the one to catch Sharon out.
Sharon (Tracie Bennett) reappeared in Weatherfield earlier this spring after a long absence, and it was quickly revealed to audiences that she is on the Street on the orders of her drug-dealing nephew Harvey Gaskell (Will Mellor).
Only Jenny and Shona Platt (Julia Goulding) have expressed some suspicion against Sharon, who is on a search to hunt down Leanne Battersby (Jane Danson), who has left the cobbles, in order to persuade her to amend her police complaint toward Harvey.
Sally-Ann, who plays Jenny, disclosed to Minmaxfeeds and other media that Jenny is much more afraid of Sharon than the other Street people due to their common relationship with Rita Tanner, Jenny’s former adoptive mother (Barbara Knox).
“A few years back, Sharon defrauded Rita. Jenny isn’t pleased with the fact that someone seriously injured Rita, so she’s jealous of her,” Sally Ann explained. “Jenny even ran into Sharon outside the jail lately” (where Sharon was visiting Harvey and Jenny was visiting husband Johnny Connor, played by Richard Hawley).
“Jenny has been lulled into thinking, ‘Oh, you know, she had cancer, and now she’s got a thriving company, and she’s given me £10,000, and she’s turned a new leaf.’
“Jenny has been persuaded by Rita that everybody deserves a second chance, saying, “Jenny, you got one, and so did you Gemma,” and she has agreed, but she has now run into Sharon outside the jail.
“On the trail, Jenny transforms into Weatherfield’s Angela Lansbury, pulling pints instead of a typewriter, as seen in the opening titles. Jenny from Gogglebox, with notes on Sharon’s behavior!”
While it is unclear when Sharon will be exposed for her deception, Sally Ann revealed that she is looking forward to seeing Jenny and Sharon engage in a major brawl.
“Last week, I did, in fact, tweet. I said I was having the most fun I’d ever have at work and thanked Jonathan Harvey (Coronation Street writer) “she said
“Anything with Tracie is such a pleasure to do because we fit so well together and it’s hysterical. It’s so soapy but so special,” she says.
The kidnapping of young Sam Blakeman (Jude Riordan) by one of Harvey’s friends in order to coax Leanne out of hiding, thanks to a tip from Sharon, takes a serious turn this week.
What lengths will Sharon go to assist Harvey?
On ITV, Coronation Street airs at 7.30 pm and 8.30 pm on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday evenings.
