As she paid a moving homage in public, Charley Webb shared a sweet childhood picture with her numerous fans. The former Emmerdale star posted a picture of herself and her father when they were younger on Instagram.
Charley’s father tragically passed away when she was just 14 years old, and this Thursday, September 28, marks 20 years since his departure. The actress, best known for her role as Debbie Dingle in the ITV serial opera, posted the throwback photo of herself as a young child wearing a denim boilersuit and with mousy blonde hair.
In a striped jumper and denim trousers, she is seen being held in her father’s arms while he looks to be leaning against a sideboard. She typed “Miss you Papa” next to the adorable image. She continued, “20 years 28 September 2002.”
Among the first to respond, Gemma Atkinson noted how much a young Charley resembled her youngest son, Ace, 20 years after the passing of her own father. The Hits Radio DJ wrote, “It’s like gazing at a picture of you and Ace,” along with a red heart.
Charley’s tweet received heart-shaped comments from former Emmerdale actors Sheree Murphy and Antony Quinlan, while close pal Sammy Winward, who played Katie Sugden in the ITV serial, simply commented, “Love you Charles.”
Along with offering encouragement, Charley’s admirers also shared their own personal tragedies. I lost my mother 20 years ago on June 6, 2002, and I’ve never forgotten,” commented @ jamkat840. “Hugs. I lost my dad 28/9/21 it’s very hard without them,” added @donna sfield.
Giving you love today (and every day), @laceykate7 wrote. @michellemo x responded: “Thinking of you and sending a hug. Never easy.” @tinaharvey28 added: “Sending you loads of love I lost my Dad 10yrs ago and it still aches.”
Others who agreed with Gemma also noted how much Ace, her youngest kid with Emmerdale actor husband Matthew Wolfenden, resembles his mother. Ace is three years old.
“Aah Charley you look like Ace in this picture… We met you & Mum when she was really mourning him he’d just been gone 3 years,” remarked @alimarshall22. “God Bless.”
Ace is your double, said @sbskin and beauty. @charlotteedwards2802 in response to @sbskin and beauty’s post. @melboyd11 added: “Wow ace looks just like you.” @lolbmills said: “I thought that was Ace. Such a gorgeous shot.” @butterflysam5 concurred: “Omg I thought it was Ace.”
Charley paid tribute to her late father in a poignant Father’s Day letter she released earlier this year. Charley posted a sweet old photo of herself kissing her father.
“Daddy’s Girl 20 years without this dream of a man. HF’s Day to all the gorgeous, caring Daddy’s with or without us. Life is so brief, remember to love your people a lot,” the mother of three from Bury wrote.
Following her letter, the 34-year-old received a lot of support, notably from her older brother, Hollyoaks actor Jamie Lomas, 47. The soap opera’s Warren Fox character said, “Miss him very dearly sending you a big hug.” She added love heart emojis.
