There has been a brand-new reunion for the ITV soap opera Coronation Street as former and current cast members got together to support Dame Maureen Lipman as she took on a role away from the cobblestones.
Smiles could be seen on the faces of Denise Welch, Angela Lonsdale, Jane Hazlegrove, and Sally Dynevor as they posed with Maureen, who is the star of the upcoming Rose play at the Hope Mill Theatre. As “a powerful reminder of some of the tragic events that formed the century,” the one-woman play is described.
The role of Rose is played by Dame Maureen. Rose is a fiery Jewish woman who traces her life from the destruction of Nazi-run Europe to achieving the American dream.
The play debuted in Manchester on Tuesday, August 30, but a special gala night was held on Friday, September 2, and some of Maureen’s soap opera coworkers were in attendance.
After seeing Maureen in the show, Denise, who portrayed Natalie Horrocks in Corrie from 1997 to 2000, posted a picture of herself with the two of them on Instagram.
The Loose Women panelist captioned the image with, “Tonight we saw an amazing masterclass in acting by @maureenlipmanuk @hopemilltheatre in the one woman piece, Rose.” She was dressed in a vibrant orange outfit for the event.
She is stunning, and her performance is both hilarious and moving.
directed masterfully by @scottlecrass. Try to get on the cancellation list even though it’s sold out! Denise continued.
She continued, “Here with her fan club, moi, @sallydynevor, @realangelalonsdale, and Jane Hazelgrove,” alluding to the picture of Maureen, who is well-known for portraying Evelyn Plummer in the soap opera Corrie, sipping wine while posing with her special visitors.
Jane also appeared very different from her on-screen character Bernie Winter as she wore a white shirt. Jane is known for playing Sally Webster in the ITV soap opera, and she looked fresh-faced in a pair of black-rimmed glasses after flying back from New York with her two daughters Phoebe, 27, and Hattie, 18.
Angela, who previously joined the Channel 4 drama Hollyoaks and who soap fans will recognize from her role as Emma Taylor on the Cobbles from 2000 to 2003, also grinned for the camera as she cut a chic figure in a khaki green shirt dress. She added other photos to her personal Instagram account as well.
She said, “What a fantastic evening watching @maureenlipmanuk in Rose @hopemilltheatre.” “A masterclass in acting, and @scottlecrass did a fantastic job with the direction. An even bigger triumph for @joeandwill5678 in our favorite theater. It’s always a pleasure to hang out with @denise welch and @sallydynevor, and it’s lovely to see Jane and Wizz.
And when fans saw them together, they were ecstatic. “What a wonderful shot and @maureenlipmanuk,” remarked @cockynairocreative. WOW, what a fantastic actress.
” “Looking great ladies and Maureen Lipman, what a legend,” wrote @1macey. “Such a great shot of 5 amazing actresses,” @starling4654 wrote. Such a fantastic. Added @emmapeel58: “Fabulous picture! The iconic Maureen still looks fantastic.
Sophia Lauren famously stated in her memoirs that her friendships were the most important and best connections of her life. Angela also published a selfie of herself with Denise, who was pouting for the camera, Sally, and herself. Second that, please! My ladies
The good news is that Maureen has already said she will return after her stint as Rose in the show in both Manchester and London, so Corrie audiences don’t have to worry about missing her in Weatherfield. I’m taking a short break from Corrie. She stated on Good Morning Britain last month that she was returning because she liked Corrie and the people.
Even though I’ve lived in London for 54 years, it’s fantastic to be back up north because you realize how posh you seem to be.
Evelyn is a very Jack Rosenthal character, as Dame Maureen noted in reference to her late husband Jack Rosenthal, who penned more than a hundred episodes of Corrie. She is a true battleaxe and hasn’t been truly atoned for.
