ITV Corrie fans go wild for newcomer Glenda as they say she’s ‘already iconic’

In Friday night’s episode of Coronation Street, a new character was warmly received by the audience as soon as she appeared on the renowned cobbles (August 5).

It was evident that undertaker George Shuttleworth was high as a kite when he arrived for Mr. Pugh’s funeral and disclosed that he had taken lover Eileen Grimshaw’s potent medications to relieve his toothache.

While widow Mrs. Pugh gave him the uncomfortable third degree, his colleague Todd pushed George into one of the burial cars. Glenda, however, George’s sister, suddenly appeared and saved the day at that precise moment.

George was found to be dozing off in the rear of the funeral car, so she promptly assumed control of the situation.

George later made an embarrassed appearance while Glenda, Todd, and Sean Tully praised how wonderfully the funeral went after the wake in the Rovers Return.

He was overjoyed to see his sister again, who revealed to her new friends that she performs on cruise liners. And she wasn’t the only one who was happy to see George.

Fans of the soap opera adore Glenda, who is portrayed by actress and singer Jodie Prenger. Prenger rose to stardom after winning the BBC Talent competition I’d do Anything in 2008, and she later played Nancy in the West End production of Oliver. They laughed as she introduced herself to a stern-looking Eileen and told her, “You smell like my nan.”

It’s difficult to think of a new character in recent memory that we have fell in love with any quicker than we did with Glenda Shuttleworth (around 15 seconds), according to a tweet from the Talk of the Street podcast @corriepodcast. “That was a wonderful debut from Jodes, love Glenda, fab bit of casting @itvcorrie,” tweeted @TeamColNolan.

Written by @mikepriestley13 “I enjoy Glenda. She’s like a fresh breath of air. I anticipate some comedic sequences involving her.” “#jodieprenger as Glenda fits beautifully in to Coronation Street – great debut moments,” commented @Januarygirl1946.

I already adore Glenda, said @oliviarose18xx. remarked @MJ JJ061215: “I adore #jodieprenger; she is a natural. Glenda should live a long time, I hope.” Furthermore, @terrettcorey tweeted: “Glenda? EXISTING ICONIC”

Jodie, a native of Blackpool, has realized a longstanding dream by being cast as Glenda. And with a position behind the Rovers’ bar, the protagonist finds her feet rather quickly.

She had a fruitful theatrical career, appearing in One Man, Two Guvnors at the Haymarket Theatre in London and as Miss Hannigan in Annie.

She portrayed the title part in Shirley Valentine’s UK theater run, and more recently, she played Kelly, the main character, in the world premiere of Kay Mellor’s musical Fat Friends.

In addition, Jodie played Helen in the National Theatre’s production of A Taste of Honey, which was influenced by seeing early Coronation Street episodes.

Jodie spent eight months in 2001 as one of four primary performers in a staff of 19 onboard the Disney Wonder, and she will draw on that experience to play entertainer Glenda.

Glenda arrives from the cruise ships with a whiff of the exotic and immediately makes both best friends and foes in equal measure, according to producer Iain MacLeod’s prior comments regarding her part. The persona is a lot of fun and reminds me of vintage Coronation Street women.

Added him: “We are all thrilled to have Jodie on board since she is a fantastic talent. She immediately felt like a Corrie character when she arrived on set, and I anticipate that viewers will adore her.

“I know I sound like a soppy sod, but being on Coronation Street has been on my bucket list ever since I was a little girl,” added Jodie. It’s an honor, and this particular time in my life is incredibly special. to take part in something that my family and I have long loved. And what a character, I must say, a complete dream role.”
