ITV Coronation Street’s Sally Carman breaks social media silence with message after ‘panicked’ fans threatened soap ‘boycott’

Sally Carman-Duttine, a cast member of Coronation Street, has broken her prolonged social media silence and addressed her earlier “sad” news. Fans worried as they extended their well wishes to Sally back in February when the actress, best known to them for her role as Abi Webster in the ITV soap opera, announced she would be taking a sabbatical from social media for a few weeks.

She shared a photo with the words “Taking a bit of a break from social media for the next few weeks,” along with a heart emoji as the caption in a post. And supporters quickly flooded the soap star with messages of encouragement.

Hope everything is okay, tweeted @debbielawley64. I hope everything is good, said @susan_siddle.

RT @franceliafarrellanderson: “Do what’s right for you, my lovely.” You will be missed, but taking a vacation is important for the soul, wrote @belletoes on Twitter. “We will miss you,” said @tinaob83.fanpage. “We hope your okay and staying safe.”

But after disappearing for a few weeks, Sally returned to Instagram and shared a story in which it was implied that she had made a “sad” news. The soap star stated, “Not sad at all, just gave up social media for Lent,” before joking, “Anyway, I’m back now and have already watched a toilet roll sprout fungi – Instagram, I’ve missed you.”

Georgia Taylor, who is best known for playing Toyah Habeeb in the long-running soap opera Corrie, was her Corrie co-star and was the first to comment upon her homecoming. “I can cancel my Sally Carman Socials Bereavement Group Meetings now,” she wrote.

“Shame. Georgia said, “The cakes were pretty banging,” to which Sally responded, “I can disappear again if cake is involved!” with a series of laughing and sobbing emoticons. Simon Gregson, who plays Steve McDonald, joked in response to Sally’s letter, “That was my toilet roll.”

Fans, on the other hand, were only relieved to see Sally back with an update after being concerned that she was leaving the drama.

“Oh thank goodness for that — I had a horrible moment where I thought Abi was leaving Coronation Street,” said @delilah_after_dark. We adore Abi. As @xifrecklefaceix retorted, “I thought the same thing I was about to boycott Corrie.”

@janefinlayson4944 tweeted: “Yay welcome back – hope you Joe and Figgy are well.” Posted by @nathan.molyneaux: “Yay. Salutations, @sally_carman__. You are also missed by me. “Blimey, for a second there I thought you were leaving Corrie,” wrote @jeneldridge17. Phew.” YAY!! @katiep_1 typed. It’s great to have you back, Sally! Although a brief break from socializing is usually beneficial. Added @christophergrieves: “Great to have you back Sally.”
