ITV Coronation Street’s Jenny star Sally Ann Matthews delights fans with ‘blast from the past’ as they share call for return

Jenny Connor hasn’t always had the best luck in finding true love, and her most recent union on Coronation Street seems to be coming to an end. Sally Ann Matthews, who plays her, has been reflecting as a result.

The Rovers Return landlady called it quits with toyboy Leo on Wednesday night’s trip to the cobbles as he harbored resentment over turning down a job in Canada to stay in Weatherfield with her. Following the episode, the soap actress turned to Instagram.

Sally wrote on Instagram, “She’s always been unlucky in love,” and posted a picture that admirers immediately recognized as a “blast from the past.”

The black-and-white photo depicted Sally and Martin Platt during Sally’s initial run in Corrie, which spanned from 1986, when she made her debut as Rita’s foster daughter, to 1991. Martin Platt was portrayed by Sean Wilson. As they smiled for the camera while dressed in classic 1980s fashion, a youthful Sally placed her shoulder on her co-star.

Martin and Jenny started hanging out after Jenny developed a crush on him in college, but Martin was more interested in friendship than romance.

Just after Christmas 1986, Martin went with Jenny to a talent show where she took home the top honors. Jenny convinced Martin to let her try out the driving when he was taking her home.

Unfortunately, Jenny lost control of the vehicle, and Martin was taken to Weatherfield General unconscious.

Later, he admitted fault for the collision, but Jenny broke down and disclosed the truth when Alan Bradley, Jenny’s father, questioned him about it. When the two went grape-picking in France and Jenny fell in love with Frenchman Patrice Podevin, her interest in Martin waned.

Sally Carman, who portrays Abi Webster in the ITV soap opera, responded to Sally’s Instagram picture by writing: “Oh Jenny!” and posting a series of sobbing and laughing emojis. “Aaaahhhh I remember her,” remarked Nicola Stephenson, who portrayed Kabin papergirl Priscilla Millbanks in Corrie.

Fans responded quickly as well. “My gosh thats a blast from the past Jenny,” retorted @twiggy1007 According to @nicholls4224, Jenny and Martin were ideal. “Aaaw, I liked Jenny and Martin,” @meinirann wrote. “Aww, I always liked Martin & Jenny together,” @lostinnh echoed.

And there were many complimentary remarks. Comment from @versace.the.afghanhound “Wow!!!! You haven’t changed at all, for sure!” “Your still just as lovely now as you were before,” tweeted @simonpeterlouth. said by @charliejordan.fanxo “This picture is amazing. Both then and now, you are beautiful, Sally.” Sally (Jenny) hasn’t aged, @marcelle.connjamieson added.

However, there were also some requests for Martin to come back. “Bring back Martin Platt #BBMP,” wrote @notyours12789. Bring back Martin for Jen, @mitlee1701 echoed. Sean, who portrayed Martin in the ITV serial opera, has earned his certification as a cheesemonger.

Apparently, Corrie viewers were aware of this fact because @jules hieatt made the following joke: “Yeah, but at least she’d have plenty of cheese if she’d stayed with Martin.”
