Emmerdale’s Eli Dingle ‘to return’ as fans beg Joe Gilgun to come back to ITV soap

With his brother Marlon presently in hospital after having a stroke, Emmerdale fan favourite Eli Dingle might be set for a big comeback to the ITV soap.

After proposing to Rhona Goskirk, Marlon’s life is permanently transformed – and not in the way he had intended.

Marlon fell at home shortly after the proposal and was brought to the hospital after suffering a stroke; he is still unable to speak, walk, or eat on his own.

Paddy Dingle, Marlon’s best friend, has shrunk away from him, unable to cope with the reality of Marlon’s condition.

It would make sense for some of his absent family members to return, since he currently requires all of the help he can get.

Eli, as his younger brother, could be the ideal choice, especially because Joe Gilgun’s role on the serial is sorely missed.

From 2006 through 2010, Joe played Eli, a character who was involved in a number of contentious stories, including battles with Zak, kidnapping Marlon and ending up dangling off the side of a building, and eventually departing the village for good.

Joe’s character hasn’t been killed off yet, so there’s a chance he’ll return.

Fans are clamoring for it, with one pleading on Twitter: “Oh Eli, come back!” But then again, I adore #Brassic!!! But he’s the only character I’d like to see return. #BringBackEliDingle.”

“Think its about time April asked why she’s never met her Uncle Eli, Uncle Scott, or Auntie Kelly!” someone else said, adding, “Think its about time April asked why she’s never met her Uncle Eli, Uncle Scott, or Auntie Kelly!” Now there’s a family with a good mix of aunts and uncles!”

“Just seeing [Brassic] makes me miss Joe Gilgun from Emmerdale and I desperately want Eli Dingle back!” lamented another admirer.

Joe has made waves in everything from This Is England to Misfits and Brassic since leaving Emmerdale.

Before competing with David Metcalfe actor Matthew Wolfenden for the role of Eli, he featured in more than 100 episodes of rival ITV series Coronation Street as Jamie Armstrong.

Joe was the winner, but Matthew was summoned back to audition for David later.
