Emmerdale’s Diane Sugden actress hints she could make future returns to ITV soap

Elizabeth Estensen has made hints that she might one day visit Emmerdale once more.

The ITV soap opera’s Diane Sugden was portrayed by actress Elizabeth for a number of years before she eventually left the show during dramatic moments. But as part of the show’s 50th anniversary celebration, she will return for a very special storyline involving Diane’s friend Faith Dingle.

For more than 20 years, Diane had been a pillar of the community. Elizabeth has been engaged in several significant plotlines, including Diane’s union with Jack and his passing, the helicopter disaster that claimed Val’s life, her liaison with Eric, and her stabbing by Chas.

Elizabeth said in a statement prior to the action that she was “very thrilled” to be asked to return to Emmerdale to help celebrate the show’s 50th anniversary. While not exactly the same, it is similar. There are many people that I still know, and I was glad to see them once more.

“However, I can’t say I’ve enjoyed having to race to catch a train once more! Diane enjoys getting up with residents of the community, but she has returned specifically to visit Faith, a close friend of hers. Who knows, maybe she’ll come back again someday!

In October 2021, Diane was shown leaving the community, and the farewell scenes of Elizabeth were shown to emotional viewers. She will return, though, for a few sequences in honor of her 50th birthday.

“We had always hoped to attempt the 50th anniversary reunion of some of our favorite characters. Diane is a Sugden, and she starred in the program for a very long time. We adore Liz, the actor, and the role to the moon and back “Regarding Elizabeth’s return, Jane Hudson commented.

“It just seemed right to bring her back since she is an old soul, the local expert, and a versatile support for a wide range of characters. She will quiet the storm down!”

Elizabeth said she would “miss everyone dearly” before departing.

At the time, she stated: “I have enjoyed portraying Diane Sugden for the past 22 years because of her kindness, dependability, and fierce loyalty. But I think it’s time for us to part ways now.

I will always have a soft spot for Emmerdale. I have had the nicest friends and coworkers, both past and present, who have always treated me with respect and kindness. I will sincerely miss everyone.”
