Emmerdale boss explains reason behind show’s special funeral scene

Producer of Emmerdale Laura Shaw has given an explanation for the significance of the show’s poignant burial sequence.
In spite of their recent disputes, the Dingle family will come together in Friday’s episode for a double funeral service for Liv and Faith.
Vinny will be moved when the entire village lines the streets to pay tribute to his wife Liv and relative Faith in the episode’s heartbreaking scene when the service is moved outside.
Producer Laura Shaw talked about the enormous difficulties in getting practically the entire ensemble to film at the same time before the episode aired.
The producer stated, “We knew when we chose to perform a joint funeral for Faith and Liv that it would need to be a very special and unforgettable burial for two so enormously epic and well loved characters.”
“Having a scene with the complete adult ensemble was something we had never done before, and considering that the funeral was near the conclusion of our October 50th birthday month, having the entire cast there to say farewell felt very right and suitable.
It was a difficult task for the Emmerdale production team to plan and carry out, and it was equally difficult to film as the Dingles said goodbye to not just one, but two members of their cherished family. Some of the tears that flowed that day were quite real.
However, there was also a festive atmosphere on set hidden behind the sobs and despair. A sense of pride and honor at the fact that the month of October was coming to a finish with all of our villagers gathered on Main Street, exemplifying the love, warmth, and community that has kept Emmerdale on our televisions for 50 years.
