Dani Dyer, who starred alongside her father Danny Dyer in Love Island, is the new big name to land a part in East Enders.
With plenty of drama on the horizon for 2021, here’s what you need to read about the BBC One soap’s cast changes…
Terry Cant (Brian Conley) has joined the cast.
Terry Cant, Sonia’s long-lost dad, has been cast in EastEnders by Brian Conley.
His first scenes are set to air next week, and he gets off to a bad start when he meets Sonia face to face.
Brian disclosed the following about his new role:
“As you can imagine being a Londoner and now being part of EastEnders is such an incredible moment for me.
“I know for sure my dad’s looking down from above and saying ‘Good on yer son!’ It was always his favourite programme.
“So in so many ways it really is an honor to be part of such an iconic show and to be working with an incredibly talented team on camera and off. I cannot wait to order my first pint at Queen Vic.”
Last year, Sonia looked for her long-lost father online but was unable to locate him.
Dani Dyer (as a cabbie) has joined the cast.
Dani Dyer, who appeared on Love Island, has landed a part in EastEnders alongside her father Danny Dyer, who plays Queen Vic landlord Mick Carter.
However, the reality star will not portray a new Carter family member.
Dani will instead play a cab driver who gives Mick a ride around the Square.
Dani is rumored to be making a one-time guest appearance rather than joining the show on a regular basis.
According to A TV insider:
“Soap fans are going to be thrilled to see father and daughter acting opposite each other.
“Unlike some other celebrities who come on the show, she won’t be playing herself, she will be a cabbie who picks up Mick in the street.
“But it’s only a small role and not one which bosses are planning on keeping as an ongoing character.”
Harry Redknapp (as himself)- has Joined the cast.
EastEnders has announced that Harry Redknapp from I’m a Celebrity will make an appearance in the show this summer.
The former West Ham manager will play himself, not a character, in the film.
This summer, Harry’s cameo will air to coincide with the postponed Euro 2020 championship, which will take place between June 11 and July 11.
Some of the matches are scheduled to be held at Wembley Stadium, which is close to Mick’s favorite bar.
What better way to mark a special summer for football fans than by having none other than West Ham legend Harry Redknapp pay a visit to Walford,” executive producer Jon Sen recently revealed.
“He’s synonymous with London’s East End and we were delighted to hear he’s a fan of the show too. We can’t wait for audiences to see what brings Harry to Albert Square.”
Harry said: “It’s no secret that I’ve wanted to be in EastEnders so I’m over the moon to be making a special cameo this summer.
“With a nod to the Euros, it’s a lovely fit and as a proper East Londoner it’s been so much fun. [My wife] Sandra’s a huge fan, she watches it every day so it’s a real special moment for the whole family!”
Big Mo (Laila Morse) is on her way out.
Laila Morse will leave her role as Big Mo in 2021, after more than 20 years on the show, according to soap bosses.
The Sun knows, however, that actress Laila’s departure would be only temporary.
According to a spokesperson for EastEnder: “Just like many occasions before, Big Mo will be departing Walford but as always she’ll no doubt be back in the not too distant future”.
Janine Butcher (Charlie Brooks) makes a comeback.
Janine Butcher, an iconic character from EastEnders, will return to the show later this year as part of a “big plot.”
More than seven years after her last appearance as Janine, Charlie Brooks is reprising her role as the villain.
It’s unclear if Janine, who murdered two of her husbands, would be pardoned.
According to an EastEnders source:
“Bosses have a huge story planned for Charlie’s return.
“They are keeping tight-lipped about whether Janine will come back as a reformed character after all the chaos she has caused in the past.
“But she certainly has a lot of history in Albert Square so whether she will be welcomed back with open arms or not remains to be seen.
“One thing the viewers can be sure about is that it is bound to be explosive. Wherever Janine goes, drama is never far behind.”
Gwen Taylor (Violet Highway) has joined the Cast.
Violet Highway, the straight-talking grandmother of Callum and Stuart Highway, has been cast in EastEnders by TV legend Gwen Taylor.
Violet debuted earlier this month (May 2021), just in time for Callum’s tumultuous wedding to boyfriend Ben Mitchell.
She was swift to express her displeasure with her grandson marrying into one of the Square’s most infamous criminal families.
Gwen Taylor, who plays Vi, announced the arrival of her character in an interview:
“She’s very much stuck on Callum’s previous ill-fated wedding with Whitney and doesn’t let them forget it.”
“She likes to get a dig in but she also wants to make sure that Callum is going to be alright and not get hurt too. Vi’s not totally okay with their relationship but she’s accepting it because Callum seems happy.
“She does make comments about them, but she softens it a bit to not be completely harsh.”
Zack Hudson (James Farrar) has joined the cast.
In March 2021, James Farrar made his Square debut as Zack Hudson, Sharon Watt’s estranged half-brother.
At his late father Gavin’s funeral, Zack made quite a scene, leaving the guests stunned with a scathing toast.
The newcomer then arrived in Walford and insisted on establishing a friendship with his girlfriend, even assisting her in the establishment of her new gym.
Nancy Carter and Zack’s character have teased a romance.
James teased what’s in store for Zack and Nandy:
“There’s a certain blonde that’s returning that I have a feeling there might be some friction with and considering a lot of my scenes are with the Carters, you’ll probably be able to guess who that is.”
Discussing who else Zack will be crossing paths with in the coming weeks, James added: “There is some stuff with Ruby, though, and Jean.
“There’s also some stuff with Bobby, who is such a terrific young actor.”
Maddy Hill (Nancy Carter) has made a comeback.
In April 2021, five years after her departure, actress Maddy Hill returned to reprise her role as Nancy Carter.
Nancy’s return raised doubt when she announced she had been to the doctor and was using CBD oil.
Linda asked Nancy about her unexplained hospital visits, and she was taken aback when Nancy revealed that she has chosen to be sterilized because she does not want children.
Maddy had this to say about her return to EastEnders: “I’m so excited to be coming back and reconnecting with all the hilarious, warm, talented cast and crew and meeting some lovely new faces.
Left: Davood Ghadami (Kush Kazemi)
Davood Ghadami’s time in Walford came to an end earlier this month when serial killer Gray Atkins brutally murdered Kush Kazemi.
In a shocking twist, Gray shoved Kush under a train as he prepared to leave the Square with his fiancee Whitney Dean.
In January 2021, EastEnders announced that Davood will be leaving his role as Kush as part of a major storyline scheduled to air later that year.
Davood’s EastEnders role was confirmed to be axed after producers decided not to extend his contract in favor of a dramatic departure.
Jake Wood (Max Branning) – left.
Jake Wood’s character Max Branning in EastEnders was killed off in February 2021 as part of a major storyline involving his affair with Linda Carter.
Max sealed his departure when he told Linda – and the whole pub – about Mick’s harassment and accused her of sticking with him out of pity.
Linda later told Max that he needed to leave Walford and that he could never talk to her again.
After learning of Max’s blabbering about Mick’s harassment ordeal, it was Jack who eventually convinced him to leave.
