Corrie’s Billy actor supported by co-stars as he exchanges cobbles for new Channel 4 job

Daniel Brocklebank, who plays vicar Billy Mayhew in Coronation Street, is swapping over his regular job for something rather different.

The actor just signed on for a massive new role at competing network Channel 4 on the venerable quiz show Countdown, and his co-stars have been there for him throughout his fast-paced career.

Fortunately, it doesn’t seem like he’ll be gone for too long because he’ll be on the show as a guest with Les Dennis, his former Corrie co-star who is presently taking over for Anne Robinson after she gave her notice.

Daniel shared the news on Instagram by uploading a photo of the door to his dressing room, which featured the Countdown logo and his name inscribed beneath it.

“Today starts my guest appearance on #Countdown in Dictionary Corner with the pretty amazing Susie Dent and my friend Les Dennis hosting,” he said in a message to his followers.

Daniel will be on the show through Monday, August 8, assisting Susie with the most recent puzzles.

Corrie co-star Jamie Kenna wrote on Twitter: “Oh my goodness I adore this!!” His Corrie co-stars came out in full support of him.

Samia Longchambon, who plays Maria Connor, continued, “You will be ace Dan, well done! xx.”

Dictionary Corner has never looked so hot, wrote one fan, adding: “If you don’t provide a double entendre I’m filing a letter of protest!”

Another social media user exclaimed: “Omg this is the news I’ve been waiting for!” as another laughed, “Oh wow you lucky boy!”

Dan acknowledged that the experience had been “so much fun and completely terrifying at the same time,” but he won’t be abandoning his Corrie friends anytime soon.

He posted a nice in-character photo on Friday (August 5) with Tony Maudsley, Gareth Pierce, and George Shuttleworth actor Todd Grimshaw as the group dressed for an on-set burial.

They were all dressed in black suits, with Dan donning Billy’s vicar collar, and they were prepared with sunblock while they relaxed between takes.

On Instagram, Daniel stated: “I adore these fellas.

As you would imagine, there is seldom any laughter whenever we are together. As soon as Gareth said, “Back atcha babez!”

In response to Lisa George’s row of love heart emojis, Beth Tinker star Jamie Kenna chuckled and said, “That’s your album cover!”
