Corrie icons Becky and Roy reunite as fans sent into frenzy and make plea over brilliant new snap
As a result of Katherine Kelly’s nostagia-inspiring portrait of herself with David Neilson, two Corrie legends were reunited. Katherine, who portrayed brash ex-con Becky McDonald on Coronation Street from 2006 to 2012, relished catching up with David, who has played Roy Cropper on the show since 1995.

When Katherine, 43, posted a smiling snapshot of the couple on Instagram, she sparked a frenzy among her followers. She typed, “Hey look who I caught up with today.” David Neilson is still among my all-time favorite people. #davidneilson #mightyactor #roysrolls @coronationstreet @itv
In the ITV soap opera Wayward, Julie Hesmondhalgh’s character Roy, the café owner, and his wife Hayley hired Becky Granger and gave her a job at Roy’s Cafe.
Katherine received numerous honors for her well-known portrayal of mouthy Becky, who later wed Steve McDonald while tussling with romantic rival Tracy Barlow. In 2012, Katherine won the National Television Award for Outstanding Serial Drama Performance.
She has portrayed Lady Mae in the drama series Mr. Selfridge, Leah Dale in the ITV drama Cheat, Sally Wright in Innocent, and DI Karen Renton in the second season of Liar since leaving Coronation Street, when Becky said goodbye to the fabled cobbles and traveled to Barbados with a new man, Danny Stratton. In addition, she played DI Jodie Shackleton in Happy Valley and appeared in the Doctor Who spinoff Class, BBC One’s The Night Manager, and the Netflix series Criminal: Britain (2019–present).
Suranne Jones, a fellow Corrie legend who portrayed Karen, another of Steve’s ex-wives, responded to her message with love hearts. Then Julie, who until her untimely passing in 2014 portrayed Roy’s wife Hayley, screamed, “Arg I LOVE THIS!!!!”
Dinnerplate10 said: “Simply put, I don’t think many people realize how underappreciated you two were as a comic double-act. Beautiful timing, tragedy, and an unmistakable profound love for one another. Years of flawless performances from you both. I’m grateful x”
curzonandy said “‘Cropper & McDonald Investigate,’ a spin-off of Coronation St., definitely has legs. An X-Files in the North style!” “I see a detective drama duo in the pipeline, Dempsey and makepeace maybe,” the conscious vegan said.
Becky was urged to go back to the street by other admirers. lolpot enquired: “Are you certain you won’t be enticed to return to the cobbles? Becky was fantastic, and her return would be perfect timing given Max’s imprisonment and Roy’s phone usage.”
We NEED Becky and Royston to be reunited on the street, begged emma the ginga ninga26. Is this a Corry comeback?, adam liverpooluk enquired.
Andy Cheers cheered: “The best image of the day. How much we enjoyed seeing Becky and Roy (or Katherine and David) reunited for just one night. Rewinding the years, it’s a shame Hayley couldn’t join the Party. But perhaps we weren’t yet able to handle that.”
