Will Mellor of Coronation Street has spoken out about fans contacting him for drugs.
On the ITV soap, the actor portrays the ruthless dealer Harvey Gaskell, who may soon face battle with Leanne Battersby (Jane Danson) in dramatic court scenes after terrifying threats he made to the bereaved mother to keep her from testifying against him.
Mellor’s life outside of Weatherfield is quite different, but he recently confessed that fans have mistaken him for his on-screen character Harvey in real life, asking for drugs and chastising him for allegedly supplying them.
Will told The Sun on Sunday, “It was funny.” “‘Have you got owt?’ someone asked as I entered the local tavern. Harvey, do you have owt?’ ‘What are you talking about?’ I wondered.
“‘I hope you’re not selling drugs around here,’ a couple women have commented to me.
“I’m like, ‘Stop saying that, people are going to hear you.'”
Jane Danson teased Leanne’s significant court judgment in scenes set to air next week, prompting these remarks.
“She believes it will never end unless she intervenes now,” Jane explained.
“She’s afraid, but she’s trying her hardest. She is undecided about whether stating the truth or lying is the better option. I assume it will depend on how she feels on that particular day.”
