Coronation Street fan saved Sue Nicholls’ life after spotting life threatening symptom

Sue Nicholls’ life was spared by a Coronation Street fan who noticed a life-threatening sign while the actress was on screen during an episode in 2010.

Sue’s character Audrey Roberts was in a love triangle with Claudia (Rula Lenska) and Lewis Archer 11 years ago (Nigel Havers).

Audrey was sat in bed waiting for Lewis during one scene, and nurse Anna Bianconi-Moore was drawn to that scene in particular.

Anna sat watching Corrie after a shift at Addenbrooke’s Hospital in Cambridge and noticed a dappled mole on Sue’s shoulder.

She told the Daily Mail at the time, “I saw it was unusual in shape and had at least three different colors.”

These are two of the warning flags that differentiate malignant melanoma, the most lethal form of skin cancer. I was obviously quite concerned about Sue and felt compelled to act.’

Sue was directed to a skin cancer specialist and a consultant plastic surgeon after Anna called the show’s medical staff, who concluded it should be removed.

Sue’s surgeon confirmed the mole had developed into melanoma a week later.

Sue was later given the green light and invited Anna to the Corrie set to thank her in person.

‘Meeting Anna and thanking her was extremely important to me,’ she stated.

‘She is such a kind, thoughtful, and intelligent lady. I wouldn’t have done anything about my mole if she hadn’t contacted me – it was just a freckle that I’d had for a long time.’

‘I believe in fate, and it was a happy coincidence that Anna happened to be watching that specific episode that evening.’
